This has been a busy week in first grade! Here are just a few of the fun things you can ask your child about!

Handwriting Review

 Handwriting

Every morning, we have a short block of time for handwriting review!  Your child's homework folder has a list of the letter formation prompts that we use in first grade.  We want our handwriting to be efficient and we are practicing using our lines to distinguish between short, tall, and digger lowercase letters!

Work on Writing
Read to Self

Daily 5

This is our second week of learning and practicing different "Daily 5" rotations.  The "Dailies" will be an important block of time in your child's day.  Each day, your first grader will have 4 rotations that include a variety of literacy activities.  So far, we have been practicing "Read to Self", "Work on Writing", and "Word Work".  In the next week, we will be incorporating "Read to Someone" and "Listen to Reading".  After the Dailies are completely up and running, I will be able to differentiate reading lessons to better meet the needs of the kiddos! While I work with a small group, your child will be able to independently complete a variety of fun and meaningful literacy activities!

ST Math

Math

We have pretty much become experts using ST Math on the Ipad!  We get to check out a WHOLE CLASS SET on Tuesday mornings and again on Friday afternoons!  This week we also started Topic 2 - Subtracting!  We will be taking our first "fast fact" assessments this week.

We also love our brain breaks and outside time!!

Dinosaur Stomp!
Enjoying sunny weather!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great weekend!!
